Foundation in Faith
Doctrine: Catholic doctrine is taught at each grade level with aid of developmentally appropriate texts and materials. We emphasize current Catholic Church teaching derived from Scripture, from the faith life of the church, and from traditional beliefs and moral practices.
Prayer: Each morning, students gather for prayer and to hear and reflect on the day’s Bible reading. Children’s liturgies throughout the year also provide occasions for students to hear God’s word and to learn to apply its truth to daily life.
Sacramental Preparation: Sacraments are special occasions for experiencing God’s presence. Parentsparticipate with their children in preparing for Baptism, Eucharist, Reconciliation, and Confirmation. Students study and experience the sacraments throughout their years at St. Ignatius to deepen their understanding of religious practice in daily life.
Love in Action
Community Service Program: Students in Grades 7 and 8 learn about themselves as seekers of justice and peace by participating in the Love in Action Program, the basis of which is respecting and promoting the human rights of God’s people. They know that God’s realm is found wherever justice and compassion are the basis of human relationships. Their action plan in South Austin involves visiting and assisting othersfrom the very young to the very old. Big Buddies & Little Buddies: Pairing upper grade ’‘big buddies” with lower grade “little buddies” leads to very special bonds that bridge the older and younger classes. The older students learn of the responsibility and privilege of shepherding little ones, and the younger students find caring, real-life role models. Both find blessings.
