St. Ignatius Martyr Catholic School has many opportunities for students to explore their creativity and experience a rich music and arts culture. Our music program compliments the student's academic development and provides spiritual nurturing, enrichment, and growth. In addition, it teaches appreciation of liturgical music, offers instruction on a musical instrument, and centers on a mission to foster an early appreciation for music.
Each grade participates in weekly music classes as part of the general curriculum. The music curriculum is based on melody, rhythm, form, and harmony. Beginning in kindergarten, music classes emphasize active participation in singing and playing instruments. In addition, students learn liturgical music for weekly masses and about the liturgy and their faith in the context of the church year and the mass. There is an opportunity for students to participate in the choir program beginning in the third grade.
All students are allowed to perform on the stage in our school-wide Christmas program, where they collaborate with peers, experience the scene, and feel the joy of an audience. This participation helps to expand students’ appreciation for music, provide performance experiences, and form life-long memories for students and families.
The St. Ignatius Martyr Catholic School's Choir is open to all 3rd through 8th-grade students and consists of:
Choir provides an early introduction to singing with a large group and individual part-singing through liturgical music. Students learn in a fun environment but also provide an essential component to our school masses.
The choir also participates in the school-wide Christmas Program, sings at events such as the annual Fall Fest, Bobcat Fun Run (the National Anthem), and other school events, and attends various choir festivals.
Enrichment opportunities are open to all students from Prek3 to 8th grade. In addition, our music program ensures engaging and enriching activities are offered.
